A reedbed is a small scale constructed wetland and can be used to treat the same wastewater pollutants. Rentareedbed can also design and build large scale reedbeds for larger sites. Both reedbeds and wetlands are effective methods of removing Phosphorous and Nitrogen from wastewater.

Reedbeds treat liquid waste by removing organic matter, reducing BOD and COD, oxidising ammonia, reducing nitrate and removing phosphorous. The processes are complex, involving bacterial oxidation, filtration, sedimentation and chemical precipitation.

A lightweight moveable tank with adaptable piping that can connect into most existing wastewater systems. It contains specially selected species of reed that have the ability to absorb oxygen from the air and release it through their roots creating ideal conditions for the development of micro-organisms which are able to break down any soluble material present.

We can provide any bespoke reedbed required by the client. However, the two main types we offer are horizontal and vertical flow reedbeds, each performing slightly different tasks. Ideally reedbed systems should be constructed to make the most use of any fall to allow the movement of water through the system via gravity, this reduces operating costs and the reliance on power for pumps and flow systems.

Yes, the treated water is clean. Subject to Local Authority and Environment Agency consent, the water can be discharged to a land drain or watercourse.

Absolutely. We can design and install everything from a small reedbed system for a single home, to a large scale and complex system for a multi home development or industrial park.

The system can be operated without power if there is an adequate fall in the land. Although to aid treatment there may be a minimal requirement to add a powered supplementary system to the units during winter periods or systems with strong effluent.

A reedbed can treat all types of wastewater from agriculture, domestic, industry and leisure facilities.

Full establishment will take about two years but yes, the reedbed will work during this period.

The material being treated and material available are not likely to attract pests. However, the system has a lot of open water for mosquito lava to inhabit, but due to the size, design and reed growth it is unlikely that any of these lava will be able to emerge from the water.

The system operates like a biological organism, meaning the colder it gets the less effective the system will become. However, the system will not stop working as when ice forms as the water beneath it remains at a constant four degrees Celsius. Although this is not optimum, the system will still work at this temperature. System upgrades, such as aeration devices or small heaters, can improve efficiency during times of extreme cold. However, this will require power to the system.

Our modules are delivered to your site prebuilt and are installed by our knowledgeable team. Each bed weighs approximately 630kg empty. The beds have four secure lifting points allowing the attachment of straps or chains for easy positioning and deployment. Rentareedbed has been designed on the Plug and Play principle and can be connected in a variety of ways to a variety of systems to meet the specific requirements of your site.
