Is a reedbed the same as a constructed wetland?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

A reedbed is a small scale constructed wetland and can be used to treat the same wastewater pollutants. Rentareedbed can also design and build large scale reedbeds for larger sites. Both reedbeds and wetlands are effective methods of removing Phosphorous and Nitrogen from wastewater.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

What do reedbeds do?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

Reedbeds treat liquid waste by removing organic matter, reducing BOD and COD, oxidising ammonia, reducing nitrate and removing phosphorous. The processes are complex, involving bacterial oxidation, filtration, sedimentation and chemical precipitation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

What is a mobile reedbed?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

A lightweight moveable tank with adaptable piping that can connect into most existing wastewater systems. It contains specially selected species of reed that have the ability to absorb oxygen from the air and release it through their roots creating ideal conditions for the development of micro-organisms which are able to break down any soluble material present.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

What types of reedbed do Rentareedbed offer?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

We can provide any bespoke reedbed required by the client. However, the two main types we offer are horizontal and vertical flow reedbeds, each performing slightly different tasks. Ideally reedbed systems should be constructed to make the most use of any fall to allow the movement of water through the system via gravity, this reduces operating costs and the reliance on power for pumps and flow systems. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Where is the best location for my reedbed?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

Ideally a reedbed should be constructed on a slope to allow gravity to move the water through the system. This reduces operating costs and the reliance on power for pumps and flow systems. Our reedbeds can be landscaped to ensure they fit in with their surroundings.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

How long does a reedbed last?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

We believe indefinitely, providing they are properly looked after.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

How much does a reedbed cost?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

The capital cost is comparable to conventional treatment plants and depends on the effluent and quantity to be treated. The running and maintenance costs are much lower.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Can reedbeds treat non-sewage effluent?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

Yes. With careful planning and specialist design, reedbeds can help treat a variety of effluents with high BOD and suspended solids.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Does a reedbed smell?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

No. The effluent is not exposed to the air, thus eliminating all odour problems.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Can you see sewage in the reedbed?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

No. The reedbeds are designed so the liquid flows through the roots rather than leaving sewage exposed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Is the treated water clean?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

Yes, the treated water is clean. Subject to Local Authority and Environment Agency consent, the water can be discharged to a land drain or watercourse.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Do you design bespoke reedbed systems as well as supply pre-made systems?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

Absolutely. We can design and install everything from a small reedbed system for a single home, to a large scale and complex system for a multi home development or industrial park.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Will the system require power? <\/div><\/summary>
\n

The system can be operated without power if there is an adequate fall in the land. Although to aid treatment there may be a minimal requirement to add a powered supplementary system to the units during winter periods or systems with strong effluent.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

What can a reedbed treat? <\/div><\/summary>
\n

A reedbed can treat all types of wastewater from agriculture, domestic, industry and leisure facilities.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

How long does it take for the reeds to establish and will the bed work in the meantime? <\/div><\/summary>
\n

Full establishment will take about two years but yes, the reedbed will work during this period.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Do reedbeds attract mosquitos and other pests?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

The material being treated and material available are not likely to attract pests. However, the system has a lot of open water for mosquito lava to inhabit, but due to the size, design and reed growth it is unlikely that any of these lava will be able to emerge from the water.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Will the reedbed work in frost and snow?<\/div><\/summary>
\n

The system operates like a biological organism, meaning the colder it gets the less effective the system will become. However, the system will not stop working as when ice forms as the water beneath it remains at a constant four degrees Celsius. Although this is not optimum, the system will still work at this temperature. System upgrades, such as aeration devices or small heaters, can improve efficiency during times of extreme cold. However, this will require power to the system.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

What information do I need to provide for a quote?<\/div><\/summary>
\n
  1. An estimation of the volume of wastewater to be treated daily.<\/li>
  2. Up-to-date chemical analysis of the wastewater, or a description of its source, for example if it is from a campsite or farmyard etc.<\/li>
  3. Description of the site of the reedbed.<\/li>
  4. Where do you intend to discharge the water after it has been treated by the reedbed? E.g. via a soak away or stream.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n
    How are the reedbeds delivered and installed?<\/div><\/summary>

    Our modules are delivered to your site prebuilt and are installed by our knowledgeable team. Each bed weighs approximately 630kg empty. The beds have four secure lifting points allowing the attachment of straps or chains for easy positioning and deployment. Rentareedbed has been designed on the Plug and Play principle and can be connected in a variety of ways to a variety of systems to meet the specific requirements of your site.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

    Do reedbeds require a lot of maintenance?<\/div><\/summary>

    No. Reedbeds are low maintenance.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
